Overview

Our sub-unit conducts community-based health checkups in Japan and Bhutan, and utilizes the data obtained to explore context-appropriate ways to sustain positive public health outcomes. In the case of Japan, the percent of the population age 65 and over has continued to grow, from 4.7 percent in 1940 to 29.1 percent in 2021. This phenomenon is not confined to Japan, and Bhutan is no exception. In this study, health checkups for the elderly, including house calls, have been conducted in Kaling Gewog of eastern Bhutan and Tosa Town, Kochi Prefecture of Japan in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of the Kingdom of Bhutan and the Tosa Town Office.
